For all of those sick of politics, or simply sick of me critisizing what you believe in, this is my second to last post on politics before I move on to another subject entirely. Now, I know that I have been putting down America and a lot of its practices and such, but I am not a hater. In fact, I am very grateful to have been born in this country, because it is a great country, and it has great opportunity possible for the generations. The question in the title might make my last few sentences seem hipocrytical, but although America is a good country, I don't believe that it is the best.
You and almost every other American child have heard your parents and other adults tell you about how great and marvelous America is, and how this and that are better that any other country's this and that. That we have such a great country that we rule the world, that we are the best. That they are proud to be an American. This is not new to you, I bet, and you probably would never guess that in any random country, be it France, Mongolia, Sudan, Congo, Paraguay, Canada, or any other country, that they do the exact same thing. Popular music tells the story of generations of pride in ones own country. Every country thinks that they are the best, and that they are better than the rest in every single way.
Why does everyone say such a thing? Why does everyone deny the existence of a country better than their own? Well, I guess the main reason is that, in your country, there are differences than in others. Different ways of talking, eating, and even using the restroom. You only want to mingle with things that you feel comfortable with, and those are the things you grew up with. You feel comfortable and ready for life in that country. Other country's traditions weird you out, make you feel uncomfortable, so that is why you think that your country is the best.
Now, in this endless mess of human drama and opinion, what is the best country? How do you determine which country is better than all the rest? The simple answer: you can't. There is no way to compare such opiniotated topics and come to a completely right conclusion. So, in a way, there is no best country. Every country is just another country, not a better or a worse one. A country can be good, but not better than another.
So now you have heard my scoop about comparing countries, its time to give the good news. We can do something about it. I don't know how much better I can describe it than in a RUSH song called Territories, as it affirms and explains my points probably better than I do, and the lyrics to it are found at this site. Read them and comment on them. http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/r/rush/territories.html
If you read the lyrics, you probably saw the last paragraph that reads:
Better the Pride that resides
In a citizen of the world
Than the pride that divides
When a colorful rag is unfurled
That is what you can do. Love the world, and have pride in it. Even better, love all of the humans on the planet, and feel prideful to be human. If there are aliens, feel prideful to be alive. On and on and on. You see, we need to realize that we can't divide ourselves into territories, and look through the spyglass in reverse. We need to realize that we are not alone and that we need to look ahead WITH other countries, and not racing to get into the lead.
BUT YOU MUST KNOW THAT CEDAR CITY IS THE BEST!!!!!!! :P But you make a good point, and I get it! (except for the alien part.... not needed) :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
ReplyDeleteFor once I totally agree with you!!! You too Anna, the alien part, not needed. This is a great example of exactly what I think. Well, mostly. I just am too lazy to go into greater detail at the moment. I have a headache. More maybe later.
ReplyDeleteFor one thing, if my youtube downloader starts working, that song will be on my ipod.
ReplyDeleteBut more importantly, you're right. I love my country, but we can't just separate ourselves. We need to realize that we are all people and we need to help other countries, even if the conditions won't be best for us.
Also, why do you introduce your posts by saying "I know you're sick of politics...?" I don't know what people say at school, but none of the comments have said "OMG! Why must you do politics?" I haven't seen anything even mentioning that. I myself find your posts interesting. They cause my mind to ACTUALLY THINK. You've made me rethink things even, or think them more in depth.
So don't think that people are sick of the politics. I STILL think politics are quite crazy, but at least I can make sense of what you say.
Also, don't worry about criticizing another's beliefs, just as long as it's not overly rude and naive.
Oh, and Mexican tacos are better than American tacos. We Americans put this "taco seasoning" in it and loads of beef. These tacos are nasty. REAL tacos are like heaven. So there, I have now contributed one thing that America IS NOT better at.
HAHAHAHA!!!! Andrew, you make me laugh!!!! Our tacos do suck. Sadly, it is the truth. Their not nearly spicy enough.
ReplyDeleteBrad: I do find some parts of politics boring, and talking about the same thing over and over again is boring. But I still love to know what you think. We're all just to lazy. You gives us our daily mental exercise. Otherwise my brain would be too weak to do my math homework. That would be bad.
Same here. I know I've given you crap about politics, because my mind thinks differently. Let's face it, you know more about politics than any other kid in the school, but NO ONE knows everything. No one looks into the life of politicians and can decide if their decisions are.. more understandable, besides God. And I like your thoughts too. But my motto, is that I don't understand any of it, and it doesn't affect me right now, or probably ever (if AFFECTS me, but there's nothing I can do about it if I become and actor) so why should I worry when I already can barely finish my math? But you seem to be able to tackle it all just fine, and you do make people think. So good for you.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I have enjoyed your enviroment posts a lot more than the politics ones. :P
Thanks Anna. I didn't want to be stuck in a Politics rut that I had to follow the entire year, because that would be boring. However, you do live in this country, and whether or not you currently realize it, almost every outside aspect in your life has to do with government. The food you eat, the land you own, and even the Air you breath (think Environmental Protection Agency). I am not saying that you need to devote all of your time and attention to this (I most certainly don't), but the thought process of "I am one measly man that can't do anything" is exactly what the government wants you to feel. Don't forget the debuts of men like Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Junior, and Joahn of Arc. They were all nobodies from some backwoods, Abraham a simple country boy, Martin a small-town baptist minister, and Joahn a low-class peasant that claimed to see visions from God. Despite their limitations, each of these and others made a huge difference in the world.
